Savory Puff Pastry with Minced Meat and Cheese is a golden, flaky pastry filled with a flavorful mixture of seasoned minced meat and gooey melted cheese. These pastries are perfect as appetizers, snacks, or even a quick dinner option.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb (450g) minced beef or lamb
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon chili flakes (optional)
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated cheddar cheese
  • 2 sheets puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Sesame seeds or nigella seeds, for topping (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onion and cook until soft, about 3 minutes.
  3. Add minced meat and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula.
  4. Stir in garlic, paprika, cumin, salt, pepper, and chili flakes. Cook for another 2 minutes, then remove from heat and let the mixture cool slightly.
  5. Mix in shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheeses with the cooled meat mixture.
  6. Roll out the puff pastry sheets and cut them into squares or rectangles.
  7. Place a spoonful of meat-cheese filling in the center of each square, fold over into a triangle or rectangle, and seal edges with a fork.
  8. Brush the tops with beaten egg and sprinkle with sesame or nigella seeds if desired.
  9. Bake for 18–20 minutes, or until pastries are puffed and golden brown.
  10. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

  • Ensure the meat filling is cooled before adding to the pastry to prevent sogginess.
  • You can use puff pastry circles and fold them into half-moon shapes for a different look.
  • These pastries can be prepared ahead and frozen before baking—just bake from frozen, adding a few extra minutes.
