These light and citrusy muffins are bursting with fresh orange flavor, perfect for breakfast or a midday treat!

For the Muffins:

  • 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • Zest of 2 oranges
  • ¾ cup fresh orange juice (about 2 oranges)
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted (or vegetable oil for a lighter version)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup plain Greek yogurt or sour cream
  • ½ cup mini chocolate chips or chopped nuts (optional)

For the Glaze (Optional):

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 23 tablespoons fresh orange juice

Instructions

  • Preheat & Prep
    Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a muffin tin with paper liners or lightly grease it.
  • Mix Dry Ingredients
    In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and orange zest.
  • Mix Wet Ingredients
    In another bowl, whisk the orange juice, melted butter, eggs, vanilla, and Greek yogurt until smooth.
  • Combine
    Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring gently until just combined. (Don’t overmix!)
  • Add Extras
    If using chocolate chips or nuts, fold them in.
  • Fill Muffin Cups
    Divide the batter evenly among the muffin cups, filling each about ¾ full.
  • Bake
    Bake for 18-22 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Cool & Enjoy
    Let the muffins cool for 5 minutes in the pan, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • Optional Glaze (for extra zing!): Mix 1 cup powdered sugar with 2-3 tablespoons fresh orange juice until smooth. Drizzle over cooled muffins.
  • Variations:
    ✔️ For extra orange flavor, add a little orange extract to the batter.
    ✔️ Swap Greek yogurt for buttermilk for a slightly different texture.
    ✔️ These muffins freeze well! Store in an airtight container for up to 3 months.
